Overview
The Resnick Sustainability Institute is proud to sponsor a diverse array of programs in support of its mission. We offer research support for innovative projects in sustainable energy science and more broadly sustainability science. We build relationships on campus and in the larger community through our collaborations and workshops. Our lectures and seminars facilitate learning beyond the classroom. The competitions we sponsor encourage aspiring cleantech entrepreneurs and provide opportunities for the Caltech community to creatively engage in sustainability science.
Fellowship Opportunities
Every year, the Resnick Institute awards fellowships to the most stellar graduate students and postdoctoral scholars across disciplines, who are charting new research directions in sustainable energy. The Institute also offers fellowships for outstanding incoming first-year graduate students with the strongest interest and potential in the field. The Resnick Fellowships are a cornerstone program of the Institute –seeding advances in energy science and technology by providing funding to the next generation of leaders in energy research.

Distinguished Lecture Series
The Resnick Institute lectures bring prominent leading thinkers and researchers in energy science, technology, policy, economics, and media to campus to share their views with the Caltech community and public at large.
Seminar Series
The Resnick Institute seminar series is a forum for researchers to share new scientific research and innovations in sustainable energy.
Resnick Institute Workshops
The Resnick Institute workshops examine current barriers to implementing renewable energy technologies on a terawatt scale. These highly focused workshops inform leading scientists and decision makers on key economic, political, and social challenges posed by technology and influence future directions in energy research. The Institute publishes a summary report for each workshop, making critical analysis available to the global community.
International Collaborations
Collaboration accelerates the flow of ideas and information to and from Caltech and expands our reach and impact. Supporting collaborative research enriches the Caltech community beyond its core faculty, students, and postdoctoral scholars in energy science and technology by creating strong connections with other institutions.
Visiting Scholars Program
Through this program, industry experts partner with the Institute to share their expertise. Our Visiting Scholars act as experienced mentors who consult with campus research groups. Additionally, they offer facilitated discussions and seminars to the Caltech community.
Awards and Competitions
The Institute sponsors several awards and competitions including the Sustainability Innovation Student Challenge Award (SISCA), the First Look West (FLoW) competition and the Solar Decathlon. These activities promote creative thinking and encourage the next generation of cleantech innovators to develop their ideas beyond the lab.
