Understanding and Managing Ecosystems in a Time of Rapid Environmental Change
Jeff Dukes, Carnegie Institution for Science,

As human activities change Earth's atmosphere, climate, and land surface, ecosystems are responding in a variety of ways, some of which feed back to affect the rates of change. I will discuss research that seeks to better understand how ecosystems on land are responding to human activities, and the consequences of those responses. I will discuss work to better understand drought responses in forests, consequences of tropical deforestation on climate, and the potential for invasive species to disrupt ecosystems around the world. I will also briefly discuss my engagement with the public and policy makers around the topic of climate change.
