Alexander Halsey
Profile
Zeller First Year Fellow 2025
Alex is a PhD student in social science. He earned a bachelor's degree in math from the University of Texas, then worked at the Federal Reserve as a research assistant. There, he became interested in applying natural language processing and machine learning to understand effective policy in climate economics and artificial intelligence. At Caltech, Alex will focus both on applications of AI/ML, like parsing nontraditional datasets or simulating scenario analysis, and on policy questions, like how to evaluate the costs and benefits of climate interventions. He also looks forward to collaborating with climate scientists at the Resnick Sustainability Institute and the broader scientific community at Caltech. In his free time, Alex enjoys entertaining his cats, nature photography, reading science fiction, and riding his bike around Pasadena.
