Simo Pajovic
Postdoctoral Scholar Research Associate in Applied Physics and Materials Science
Profile
Pioneer Fellow 2025
Simo's research focuses on controlling thermal radiation and other forms of light emission using nanostructures smaller than the wavelength of light itself (also known as nanophotonics). He earned his PhD in mechanical engineering from MIT, where he developed approaches to improve the efficiency of thermal emitters and scintillators for applications in sustainability and medical imaging. As a member of the Atwater Research Group, Simo is finding new ways to tailor thermal radiation using strategies beyond conventional nanophotonics, such as nonreciprocity. This has the potential to improve our ability to harness heat as light and impact technologies such as solar energy conversion.
