Melanie Rodriguez Pabón
Profile
Cross-Resnick First Year Fellow 2024
Melanie is a first year PhD student in Chemical Engineering, and she had previously earned her undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering with honors from Stanford University. Originally from Puerto Rico, Melanie has been inspired by her firsthand experiences with climate change, such as living through the aftermath of Hurricane María, to help research and develop sustainable energy technologies. While at Stanford, Melanie researched the electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction with Prof. Thomas Jaramillo and Dr. Adam Nielander. Melanie was awarded the Firestone Medal and Kennedy Thesis Prize for the best undergraduate honors thesis in Engineering and Applied Sciences, titled "Informing the scale-up of the electrochemical Cu-based CO2 reduction by understanding its performance in impure electrolytes and varying ambient temperatures." At Caltech, Melanie hopes to continue learning about innovative electrochemical systems and help answer fundamental questions that will assist in their scale-up.
